Day 1 CPT at Trine University

Trine University offers a standout Day‑1 CPT program, allowing F‑1 graduate students in Experiential Learning tracks—such as MBA, MS in Business Analytics, Engineering Management, Information Studies, and the Doctor of Information Technology—to begin CPT practical training as early as orientation day. Since the internship component is integral to these programs’ curricula, CPT approval can be granted up to a month prior to the official start of classes.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an Experiential program; non-experiential students need to complete one academic year of study before qualifying for CPT.
  • Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA with no holds on registration.
  • Enrollment in a 0.5‑credit CPT course each semester is mandatory, with an approximate cost of $287.50.
  • Students without a U.S. Social Security Number should apply 30–60 days before the intended CPT start date. Those with an SSN should apply 14–30 business days before the start.

Application Process

  1. Pay the one‑time $500 enrollment fee, submit the Intent‑to‑Enroll form, and wait approximately 3–5 business days for account activation.
  2. Log in to the Suncas Immigration Advising Portal, select “CPT Authorization Request,” and complete all required e‑forms covering address, employer information, job documentation, and the experiential-learning course.
  3. Upload your job offer letter (including job title, description, employment dates, and worksite address), along with any additional required job documentation, and verify the employer address.
  4. Submit your CPT application and wait up to 14 business days for review. If corrections are needed, resubmissions typically take an additional 3–5 days.
